EFF secretary-general Godrich Gardee has been accused of assaulting one of the party's kindergarten members after a scuffle broke out at the party's headquarters last week.

Gardee allegedly threw multiple punches at Tshepo Kamvelihle Goba, after he intervened in an argument between Gardee and the former University of Johannesburg (UJ) branch leader Abednego Mathole, better known as Msholozi, last week.

Goba, a final year BA student at the UJ Soweto campus, said he was merely trying to calm Gardee down when he allegedly punched him.

"Godrich assaulted me [but] I have not opened a case. Msholozi and I decided that it was not necessary to open a case because it's a political matter, so we will deal with it internally," said Goba.

Out of nowhere he drops his bag, swings a left fist

On Facebook on Tuesday, Goba claimed that, out of nowhere, Gardee came from the basement and started shouting at Mathole: "What do you want here, f*** off! Leave here, you are not welcome here!"

Goba's post further reads: "Msholozi responds that the EFF shares this building with other government departments and businesses, as such you cannot limit the movements of people from the ground floor.

"It then becomes a back-and-forth verbal exchange, where Gardee reaches directly for Msholozi, physically, only for commissar Leigh-Ann [Mathys] to come between them, whilst she holds Msholozi's hands and tells him not to fight," Goba claimed.

Goba said about a minute after Mathole and Mathys were out of sight, he went across to try to calm Gardee down, but "out of nowhere he drops his bag, swings a left fist".

"I block it and move back. Out of no regard, he continues charging me with fists, I continue to run until I'm cornered," Goba claimed on Facebook.

According to Vusi Sowazi, who was with Goba when the alleged assault happened, Mathys had accompanied Mathole to the parking lot when Gardee lost his cool.

"We tried to restrain Godrich because he was attacking Msholozi. Once he noticed that it was Goba, he started charging at him, throwing punches and slapping him.

"There was no restraint from Godrich, he threw all his bags down and continued charging at Goba until he was cornered in the lift," claimed Sowazi.

Mathys confirmed to Sowetan that the incident transpired but declined to comment further, referring us to party spokesman Mbuyiseni Ndlozi who, at the time of going to print, was not available for comment.

Mathole reserved his comment on the matter, saying "it will be suicidal".

Sowazi accused Gardee of not setting an example as a leader of the party, suggesting that he should have ordered security to remove Mathole from the building if he had a problem with his presence.

According to both Goba and Sowazi, it took EFF security staff from the third floor to get Gardee off Goba.

Attempts to get hold of Gardee, despite leaving SMSes for him, drew a blank.

EFF communications manager Sixolise Gcilishe said: "We are not aware of that incident. If it happened, I would have known."
