Media mogul Given Mkhari has taken time off from his position as the MSG Afrika Group chairman following an alleged assault at the weekend that involved him and his wife Ipeleng.

The couple opened cases of assault against each other and later withdrew the charges at the Randburg Magistrate's Court on Monday after deciding to resolve their alleged issues as a family.

After the cases were provisionally withdrawn, the National Prosecuting Authority, however, announced that it had instructed the police to probe another alleged previous assault case involving Mkhari.

In a media statement released yesterday, MSG Afrika Group, which owns talk radio station Power FM and Capricorn FM, confirmed that Mkhari had taken time off.

"The MSG Afrika Group would like to acknowledge a personal incident involving its chairman Mr Given Mkhari. The group is cognisant of the impact that the incident has had on our staff, stakeholders, business partners and the public," read the statement.

The company said it was committed to the rule of law.

"MSG further acknowledges that the matter is of public concern and reassures the public that the matter is not taken lightly. MSG strongly condemns domestic violence of any form.

"Mr Mkhari has requested time off to deal with the matter with his family. The MSG Afrika Group has accepted the request and wishes the Mkhari family well."

MSG Afrika Group director and Power FM station manager Bob Mabena thanked their stakeholders for their support following the alleged incident.

"The group is led and run by competent professionals who are independent thinkers. This has been displayed in the past two days in the manner in which our radio station has dealt with the matter," he said.
