A cash-in-transit robber has been killed following a botched heist in Boksburg, on Atlas Road, east of Gauteng this morning.

Police spokesman Brigadier Vish Naidoo told the Sowetan that the man was killed in an exchange of gunfire between G4S security personnel and robbers.

“Details are still sketchy at the moment, but we can confirm that one suspect has been killed and an AK47 has been recovered. A security personnel was also wounded after he was shot in the hand,” Naidoo said.

Multiple explosions and shooting were reported during the robbery.

“We do not have all the information at the moment but we are investigating the robbery,” Naidoo added.

This is a developing story.
