Nomkhosi Nkambule is making her mark in the investment industry.

The 26-year-old competed in the 2017 Global Research Challenge and won the South African round which allowed her to partake in the European, Middle East and Africa phase that took place in Dublin, Ireland in April of this year.

"Although we did not make it through to the semifinal this experience alone has been so rewarding on a personal and team level," she said.

Nkambule, who was born in Tzaneen, Limpopo, is currently an intern at Alexandra Forbes in Sandton, Johannesburg.

"My job is essentially a bridge between assisting colleagues from different divisions [with] their workloads, whether it be advisory related or investment related and learning about the different levers of this complex machine," said Nkambule.

She obtained her undergraduate degree in accounting at Wits University and graduated with a postgraduate degree in investment management at the University of Johannesburg.

Nkambule said that she enjoyed having access to people who are at the top of their fields in the finance world.

"I want to soak up as much as I can in the different avenues of the investment industry."

Nkambule is passionate about people and wants to assist in the growth of small businesses.

"I want to use my expertise to not only solve problems but to also educate young women about the opportunities that exist in the world of investments," she said.

Her advice to young women who want to join her field is to believe in their own value.
