Department of Basic Education offers Second Chance Matric Support Programme

The Department of Basic Education has established the Second Chance Matric Support Programme. 

If you are in grade 12 or are trying again, get learning and revision material on the Department of Basic Education website or Facebook page, or find printed material.

To help you prepare, you can access study material on the following platforms:

Online course

  • Online course to support learners
  • Available throughout the year
  • Compatible with all devices
  • Available offline via the CAP at libraries, community centres etc
  • Can be accessed on personal computers or at the 74 Vodacom centres, libraries, community centres, the National Youth Development Agency etc
  • No data costs for Vodacom subscribers using the Vodacom e-learning site

Printed resources

  • Mind the Gap in eight of the 11 subjects
  • Past question papers and memorandums
  • Study tips
  • Maths and science textbooks, revision booklets and diagnostic reports
  • Available at face-to-face classes or from district offices and Department of Basic Education offices

Multimedia broadcasting

  • HD Open View television broadcasts (channel 201) at 36 venues, nationally or privately (R420,000 households connected)
  • DStv channel 319, Mindset television broadcasts (4.5-million households connected)
  • SABC Education Geleza Nathi broadcasts weekdays on SABC1 from 5am to 6am with repeats at 11pm
  • SABC Education Geleza Nathi YouTube videos
  • Broadcasts on community radio stations
