Inspiring excellence, transforming lives. That is the mission of the University of the Free State (UFS), one of the oldest institutions of higher education in South Africa.

In line with its mission, the UFS now offers 100% online Advanced Certificates in Teaching (ACTs) in either foundation, intermediate or senior phase (English FAL).

These programmes enable practising teachers to earn their National Qualifications Framework (NQF) Level 6 qualification conveniently on their computers with no travelling required.

Busy South African teachers can now complete the required modules electronically, giving them more flexibility to meet their personal and professional needs.

The UFS serves more than 33,000 students across seven faculties and three campuses.

Prof Daniella Coetzee-Manning from the UFS South Campus says: “Online learning presents an outstanding opportunity to conveniently and affordably progress in higher education and obtain advanced professional qualifications. It is a brilliant solution for adult students who cannot easily access traditional on-campus or blended contact programmes.

“Against the background of the current situation of school education in the country, the UFS is mindful of its responsibility to provide access to teachers to improve their qualifications, even when they are not able to travel long distances to attend classes.”

The UFS is well prepared to help teachers become more effective in their work in South African schools. Through continuous projects and long-term commitments to community schools, such as the School Change Project and the widely acclaimed Internet Broadcast Project, UFS lecturers understand and continue to address the unique needs of South African schools.

The 2018 starting dates are January 22, March 19 and May 14.
