Heavily armed police swarmed around polling stations in Manenberg on the Cape Flats after a woman was injured in what appeared to be a gang-related shooting.

Multimedia journalist Shaun Swingler‚ who is covering the elections from the suburb‚ tweeted a photograph of the alleged gunman in handcuffs as he was loaded into the back of a police van.

“Strong police presence after a gang shooting close to a #Manenberg polling station only minutes earlier‚” he said.

“Unconfirmed report that the woman shot was rushed to hospital. Appears to be gang-related shooting that is unrelated to elections‚” he said.

Details of the incident have yet to be independently confirmed by police.
