Young female radio broadcaster Naledi Aphane is excited she will be filling in for famed sports radio host Robert Marawa on the popular Marawa Sports Worldwide.

Marawa is away and Aphane will be hosting the show, done in partnership with Sowetan, Vuma FM and Rise FM from Thursday until Monday between 5.30pm and 7pm.

"I feel overly excited because it is a big show and thousands of people across the world will be listening to me. It's nerve-wrecking as well," said the 22-year-old.

She will kick of the show by hosting former Orlando Pirates player Mark Mayambela.

Aphane, who hails from  Jane Furse in Limpopo,  works as a sports presenter for online radio station Hope Alive. She is also as a producer for Vision View Sports Radio.

Aphane said she was encouraged to go into sports broadcasting by her grandfather, who told her she could be as good as Marawa.

"I am glad that this happening while all my family members are still alive. My grandfather is very excited and he is been calling throughout the day to find out if I need assistance."

She met Marawa after he responded to her interview request.

"I met Rob last year September. He'd been invited to do an interview with a certain radio station but it was cancelled. When I found out, I decided to try my luck by inviting him to my show. I was surprised when he agreed."

Since then, their professional relationship has grown, with Marawa mentoring her.

"He looks after me. He calls now and then, asking what are the challenges and how's work. He mentors me by inviting me over to the studio me in studio to see how he does things, how he handles the [show] and how to conduct interviews and how [he] delivers everything."
