Cape Town 28s gang boss Ralph Stanfield‚ who was shot in his luxury Audi R8 in Johannesburg on Thursday‚ is still in a critical condition.
This was confirmed by police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo on Friday.
No arrests have been made. “We still investigating the matter and we are appealing to anyone who has information that will assist us‚ to please come forward‚” said Masondo.
He said the police were not aware of reports that Stanfield was wearing a bullet-proof vest when he was shot.
Stanfield drove himself to the nearest hospital‚ but lost control when he arrived and hit three cars.
The shooting apparently too place in the vicinity of the M1 highway and not at Melrose Arch itself‚ according to Melrose Arch spokesperson Kerry Phillips.
Stanfield is alleged to come from a crime family‚ according to a source. “His uncle‚ Colin Stanfield‚ was a drug lord and involved in the underworld. We were successful to go after him and got his assets attached.”
Colin was imprisoned for tax evasion in 2002 and died of cancer in 2004.
The source claimed Ralph Stanfield had been involved in criminal activities for many years and said he had faced charges of drug dealing‚ arson and attempted murder.
