A North West father who allegedly killed his five-year-old boy on Christmas Eve three years ago appeared briefly at the North West high court on Wednesday.

Boitumelo Seoposengwe‚ 31 of Maphoitsile village in Taung is accused of hanging his son Remoratile Sehemo to death on December 24‚ 2014. This happened while the mother of his son had a protection order against him for abusing her.

Court papers state that the Seoposengwe family had seen him come home with his son.

After few minutes Seoposengwe came out of the house without his son. At that time he was holding a rope saying that he was going to kill himself.

The boy was then heard crying from the house and Seoposengwe’s family went inside and found the boy with a rope around his neck hanging from the roof.

Family members attempted to resuscitate the boy after the rope was cut but the boy was already dead.

Seoposengwe was then arrested and subsequently made a statement to the police acknowledging the offence.

The post mortem result stated that Sehemo died as a result of ligature strangulation.

The case was postponed to August 28 for trial.
