The Democratic Alliance says it is hoping that all parties will support its bid to have a wide-ranging investigation into state capture conducted in Parliament.
The party has requested that an ad hoc committee be established to investigate allegations of state capture.
Chief whip John Steenhuisen said at a media briefing that the draft resolution would be discussed in the Chief Whip’s Forum on Wednesday.
If all parties are in agreement‚ the draft resolution will be forwarded to the programming committee on Thursday to be placed on the order paper for a vote and final approval.
“There should be a good prospect of the motion succeeding. It can do no harm. There is no harm that can come from too much accountability‚” he said.
Steenhuisen said they hoped to have the matter on the order paper before Parliament goes into recess.
In order to establish the committee‚ 201 votes will be needed in support of the DA motion.
The party‚ which has already laid charges against several of those implicated in the Gupta emails‚ intends to lay new charges against ministers Faith Mathambi‚ Lynne Brown and Des van Rooyen as well as the head of Denel‚ Dan Mantsha. Mantsha allegedly forwarded confidential emails between Denel and the Department of State Security to the Gupta family‚ and former chief of State Protocol Bruce Koloane who allegedly sent Gupta associates confidential information regarding the Waterkloof airforce base.
Speaker Baleka Mbete indicated about two weeks ago that a probe into state capture was necessary but did not indicate what form this would take.
