Former African Union chairperson Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma’s Twitter feed raised eyebrows after a post dismissed Friday’s anti-Zuma marches as “this rubbish”.

The tweet was quickly deleted after attracting attention on social media and Dlamini-Zuma has since described it as “fake” and that it was under “investigation”.

Dlamini-Zuma‚ a former minister of health‚ home affairs and foreign affairs‚ is viewed by many as a potential successor to President Jacob Zuma – to whom she was once married.

"If Msholozi is a criminal‚ why is he not in jail?"The ANC Youth League in KwaZulu-Natal said they will stand up for Zuma — until they replace him with Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma in two years’ time.

Simon Allison‚ Africa Correspondent for Daily Maverick‚ captured the controversial tweet in a screen-grab on Friday afternoon.

“Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma (@DlaminiZuma) just deleted a tweet in which she dismissed #AntiZumaMarches as “this rubbish‚” he tweeted.

But just before 7pm‚ Dlamini-Zuma took to Twitter saying‚ “I am aware of a fake tweet doing rounds purportedly coming from my account. The source of this is currently being investigated.”

There was no additional information as to the source of the tweet.

The tweet thread can be traced back to an online discussion about how well Save SA – which played a key role in Friday’s protest marches around the country – was funded.

Katlego (@TheGalWithAFro) remarked that it‚ “actually blows my mind how many resources their privilege affords them. They really struggle different.”

Posted in response to this‚ on Dlamini-Zuma’s Twitter feed‚ was: “… this is what they protecting … hence some of us not part of this rubbish … they must join us for the march for our land they stole …”.

The tweet later mysteriously disappeared.
