Woman's teeth knocked out in brutal farm robbery

A brutal livestock robbery led to a farm worker’s front teeth being punched out.

The attack on the Jakkalsdraai farm in the Free State Saturday night appears to be linked to the peak sheep stock period that sees increased attacks by stock thieves.

The owner of the farm‚ Sarel Bornman‚ said the thieves were trying to steal sheep at his sheep pens and he fired warning shots into the air.

Farm workers Jan Makgetla and his wife‚ Mogobo‚ tried to assist and came to the pens to assist him. The Police were contacted‚ and they came out to the farm‚ but no suspects could be found.

When the farm workers returned to their house on the farm‚ four suspects who were hiding in the bushes‚ attacked them.

Jan was stabbed twice with a knife and he was seriously assaulted. Mogobo was also severely assaulted and all her front teeth were knocked out.

“How does one do this to someone else? My people were badly hurt. Jan told me that they kicked and hit him so hard that he thought they were going to kill him‚” said Bornman.

The Makgetlas were treated in the local hospital and are recuperating at home.

Bornman said he will be further improving security at the workers’ houses. This was the second incident of stock theft on the farm this past week.

According statistics from to Free State Agriculture’s Safety Desk‚ this was the 16th farm attack. Half the attacks were on farmers and the other on workers with cases of assault and rape being investigated. — TMG Digital
