Acting Eskom's chief executive Matshela Koko could face disciplinary action.

This if Eskom's board finds he has violated company policy by failing to declare that his stepdaughter was a director and shareholder of a company the state-owned entity did business with.

Eskom board spokesman Khulani Qoma told Sowetan yesterday the board was gathering necessary information. "The board has noted the contents of the Sunday Times story. It is currently apprising itself of the requisite facts to inform the way forward," said Qoma.

Eskom's spokesman Khulu Phasiwe said if there is an investigation, Koko will cooperate fully "so we can get to the bottom of the matter".

Koko, who has been at Eskom for more than two decades, has been acting CEO since Brian Molefe left after being implicated in the State of Capture report.

He is considered a front-runner for the Eskom top job and a disciplinary process could jeopardise his chances.

The Sunday Times reported that after Koko's stepdaughter, Koketso Choma, was appointed nonexecutive director of Impulse International in April, over the next 11 months the company won Eskom contracts worth about R1-billion .

Koko said he only discovered last month that Choma was a shareholder, and he requested her to resign with immediate effect.

The newspaper reported that the company was, among other contracts, awarded deals worth R79-million for construction supervision at Kusile power station, which was extended by 10 months in a subsequent R198-million deal.

Impulse was also awarded a R300-million subcontract for trunk cabling for Unit 2 at the power station.
