Only two perfumes taken as robbers hit High Court judge's house

Only two perfumes were taken during a robbery at a South Gauteng High Court judge's home on Saturday night.

It is alleged three brazen men broke into Judge Ramarumo Monama's home in Kelvin, Johannesburg, and waited for him on the premises.

A policeman who cannot be named because he is unauthorised to speak to the media said when Monama arrived at his home from shopping, he found the gate open and a white Mercedez-Benz with unknown registration parked in the yard.

"While he tried to reverse, the three suspects, all armed, gave chase after him and pointed [at] him with firearms.

"They forced him to get out of his car and lie down. One of the suspects got inside his car, parked it on the street and took two perfumes he had just bought. They then reversed their car out of the yard and drove off," said the source.

Spokesman in the Office of the Chief Justice, Nathi Mncube, said they were gravely concerned about the incident.

"Judge Monama was in a state of shock, but he managed to contact the police and reported the matter," Mncube said.

Police spokesman, Captain Ali Kodisang, said no shots were fired and nobody was injured.

"No arrests have been made so far, however police investigations were underway," he said.

Monama's incident happened hours before a gang of robbers broke into Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng's office and stole 15 computers containing judges' personal information.

Yesterday, national police spokesman Colonel Athlenda Mathe said there were no arrests yet.

However, Mathe said the acting Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Kgomotso Phahlane would update the media on the developments in the case today.
