Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to answer questions in parliament today on a number of issues‚ including whether South Africa will forge ahead with a withdrawal from the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Ramaphosa will also be asked if any rescue plans are in place for the chicken industry.

Ramaphosa‚ who during the previous Q& A session defended Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini amid growing concern over the payment of social grants come April 1‚ is also expected to answer to questions about violence against foreign nationals.

Government was in February ordered by the High Court in Pretoria to revoke its withdrawal from the ICC. However‚ parliament’s international relations committee continued discussions to withdraw.

Ramaphosa was also asked whether recent acts of violence against foreign nationals would compromise South Africa’s commitment to human rights.

Other questions posed to the deputy president are:

- In light of a recent agreement by social partners in the National Economic Development and Labour Council (Nedlac) on the national minimum wage‚ is there a scientific study to enforce and monitor compliance with the minimum wage?

- How will the SA National Aids Council (Sanac) reduce gender-based violence by reaching out to 70‚000 sex workers in a bid to increase the use of condoms‚ given that prostitution is illegal in SA?

- Are provincial development plans aligned with National Development Plan in the medium term?
