Sassa CEO's unfinished house is a haven for criminals

South Africa Social Security Agency CEO Thokonazi Magwaza owns an unfinished house that has turned into a haven for criminals in Richards Bay.

Known as the “hobo house”‚ the property is being blamed for a spike in crime in the town’s upmarket suburb of Meerensee in KwaZulu-Natal.

Meerensee Community Police Forum member Corrie Pretorius told the Zululand Observer that the house had become a “filthy dwelling” occupied by violent vagrants.

A ward councillor said the property was a health hazard.

“It is problematic and the CPF is being burdened with neighbours’ complaints‚” said Pretorius.

Magwaza‚ who has been on leave with hypertension while the Sassa grants payment debacle rages‚ did not respond to questions about the unfinished house.
