Police are searching for a man who shot and wounded a would-be hijacker in the Pinetown central business district outside Durban on Tuesday afternoon.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane said that a 28-year-old man armed with a knife had tried to rob a man in his car.

“A man armed with a knife allegedly tried to rob the vehicle driver whilst he was near the traffic lights. The driver allegedly alighted from the vehicle and shot at the 28-year-old then he sped off‚” Zwane said.

The attacker was taken to hospital for medical attention by ambulance.

Zwane added that a case of attempted murder will be opened at Pinetown police station for investigation.
