The “Good Samaritan” City of Tshwane Mayor‚ Solly Msimanga‚ is recovering well after being injured when he stopped to help a stranded motorist — and doesn’t think he is deserving of praise.

“I am fine. I just have a couple of burns in my hand‚” Msimanga said on Tuesday after addressing a briefing on the city’s financial position.

Msimanga said he was not looking for a medal or a reward when he helped the motorist whose car was burning.

“I did what is expected from all of us as citizens‚” he said.

Msimanga had seen a motorist in distress as he drove through Centurion on his way to work on Monday and stopped to assist.

He was taken to Unitas hospital where he was treated for the burns and smoke inhalation.
