The year 2017 will kick off with the high profile court appearance of the son of former SABC board member Hope Zinde.

Her son Mark Warona Zinde, whose R10000 bail for allegedly killing his mother was revoked by the Brits Magistrate's Court last month, is scheduled to appear in the Vereeniging Magistrate's Court on January 11.

This time, he is facing an assault charge with intent to do grievous bodily harm, after he allegedly attacked his father with a piece of glass at his Walkerville home south of Johannesburg.

His lawyer Francois Joubert told the Vereeniging Magistrate's Court in December that his client will be seeing a psychiatrist.

Zinde, 23, has already been through three mental evaluations after he was arrested for allegedly assaulting his father. The results are expected to be presented in court on January 11.

When Zinde allegedly assaulted his father Dr Lebohang Mohale Manoto on November 6, he was out on bail for the murder of his 50-year-old mother, Hope Zinde.

The former journalist had gone missing for several days before her body was found in the boot of her car at her house in Pecanwood Estate in Hartbeespoort, North West.

In another case, Sergeant Kennedy Fox, 35, is also standing trial for allegedly killing his wife Ché Fox, 27, on November 6 2014.

Fox, who is attached to the Vaal Rand Flying Squad, has pleaded not guilty for allegedly killing his wife at their home in Rus-ter-Vaal in the Vaal.

Fox had claimed that his wife was shot and killed by an intruder who had fired bullets through the window.

In his warning statement read before the high court sitting in Vereeniging, Fox claimed that while he and his wife slept in the main bedroom, he was woken up by loud sounds which he thought were crackers.

Fox said he saw his wife lifting her head and then dropped it.

He said he ran outside where he found three spent cartridges.

He is expected back in court on January 23 2017.

Convicted murderer and former ANC Youth League Johannesburg region chairman Patrick Wisani will also know his fate this year.

The 30-year-old Wisani is expected to be sentenced on April 24 and 25 in the South Gauteng High Court sitting in Randburg.

On December 12 2016, Wisani's legal representative, Advocate Cronje Kriel asked the court to postpone the matter in order for him to prepare his case before his client was sentenced.

Wisani, who represented himself throughout the trial, was found guilty by Judge Mohamed Ismail on November 21.

He was found guilty of whipping his girlfriend, Nosipho Mandleleni, 24, to death with a sjambok and a broom stick inside a room they were renting in Yeoville, Johannesburg.

Mandleleni died from excessive loss of blood and blunt force trauma.

Wisani was also convicted of two counts of assault and one of intimidation after he assaulted Mandleleni's twin sister Siphokazi Mandleleni and her friend Zimbini Mathibe outside a club in Johannesburg on May 22 last year.

Wisani allegedly threatened Siphokazi Mandleleni not to testify against him.

His R3000 bail was revoked for contravening his bail conditions.

Wisani is expected back in court on April 24 2017.
