Cape Town woman 'drugged‚ raped' after Waterfront outing

A businessman is facing a charge of rape after allegedly drugging a 27-year-old woman at a restaurant at a popular tourist destination in Cape Town.

Police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Andre Traut told TMG Digital that the 42-year-old man was apprehended on December 21.

He is accused of raping the woman after an outing three days earlier at the V&A Waterfront.

"The suspect was released on R2 000 bail after his first court appearance and the matter is currently being heard in the Cape Town Magistrate's Court.

"The identity of the suspect cannot be disclosed until he has pleaded‚" said Traut.

Police did not disclose any further information about where the rape took place. - TMG Digital
