Special needs children injured in Ruimsig taxi crash

Ten special needs children were injured after a taxi crashed into a wall and overturned on Doreen Road in Ruimsig‚ west of Johannesburg‚ on Tuesday morning.

“ER24 paramedics‚ along with Fire Services‚ arrived on the scene and found the taxi lying on its side in the left lane of the road‚” said ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring.

“Upon inspection‚ paramedics found that the occupants had already climbed out of the vehicle and were now seated on the pavement.”

The driver of the taxi‚ said Meiring‚ was trapped inside the taxi and the jaws of life had to be used to free him. He was said to be in a serious condition.

The children “with special needs‚ believed to be aged between six and 17”‚ were assessed and found to have sustained minor to moderate injuries.

“Once treated‚ all the patients were transported to Laratong provincial hospital for further treatment‚” said Meiring.
