TUT SRC member arrested on corruption charges: Hawks

The Hawks on Wednesday said that three suspects arrested for alleged corruption are “believed to be members of the Economic Freedom Fighters Student Command at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT)”.

They were arrested on Tuesday and are to appear before the Specialised Commercial Crime Court in Pretoria on Thursday‚ spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said.

“The suspects‚ one of whom is a serving member of the Student Representative Council and two former TUT students‚ allegedly demanded R100 000 from a security company owner in exchange of having the company’s contract extended by the institution‚” he said.

“The National Anti-Corruption Investigation Unit and Crime Intelligence got hold of the information and an undercover operation was instituted.”

Mulaudzi said the trio were nabbed “shortly after receiving R40 000 in cash” in Pretoria. – TMG Digital
