A group of #FeesMustFall activists have delivered a memorandum to Rhodes University vice-chancellor Sizwe Mabizela alleging police brutality during clashes with students on Monday night.

Ten students were arrested and several others allegedly injured.

Accepting the memorandum‚ Mabizela said he was shocked to hear of allegations that riot police shot students in residences saying “this is where students should be safe”.

Plea for a 72-hour break from Fees Must Fall

Accepting the memorandum‚ Mabizela urged anyone with evidence of alleged police brutality to bring it to management‚ who can then take it to court.

The students gave management until Monday to respond.

Since the incident‚ students and their attorney‚ Basil Williams‚ have been collecting video evidence and witness statements and plan to lay formal charges of alleged brutality during a march to the police station on Friday after the bail application of student activist Luzuko Brian Naki‚ who was arrested on Tuesday‚ for the second time‚ for alleged malicious damage to property and public violence.

Naki is currently appearing in court.
