Mother and son shot by neighbour during alleged altercation

A mother and her son were shot‚ apparently by a neighbour‚ during an alleged altercation in Olivedale north-west of Johannesburg on Friday evening‚ paramedics said.

“At approximately 8.30pm an off duty ER24 paramedic in the nearby vicinity responded to a complex near Pritchard Road in Olivedale after calls for an ambulance were received over ER24’s communications channel.

“Upon arrival he found that an 18-year-old and his mother sustained gunshot wounds. The 18-year-old sustained a gunshot wound to his face and his mother sustained a gunshot wound to her hand. Both of them were in a serious condition at the time‚” said ER24 spokesman Werner Vermaak.

An ER24 ambulance and another private service arrived on the scene to assist with treatment. Police and private security companies also arrived on the scene‚ he said.

“The exact circumstances surrounding the incident is not yet known. However‚ the mother explained that they were apparently shot by a neighbour during an altercation. The police will conduct an investigation into the exact circumstances‚” Vermaak added.

The 42-year-old mother and her son were transported to a hospital in Fourways for further care‚ he said.
