The Congress of the People (Cope) is “here to stay”.

That’s how the party summed up its future after a “frank and honest assessment of the party” at the weekend.

Leader Mosiuoa Lekota said: “Cope survived the worst. We are convinced that Cope is the party for the future and we will continue to participate‚ working together with other parties.

He put a condition on this‚ saying Cope “will collaborate with all the parties that abide by the Constitution of this country and those who are ready to oppose corruption‚ placing SA and its people first”.

On the future‚ Lekota said: “We are sure that the party is here to stay and honestly represents the people and the Constitution of this country.”

Ahead of the weekend‚ Cope had said the meeting would be an “introspection on the results of the local government elections” which took place on August 3 and the national election of 2014‚ and the party’s “massive loss of support”. – TMG Digital
