The Gauteng Education Department says it considers the conduct of a teacher captured on video ranting and swearing at a pupil at Jeppe High School for Boys as unwelcome behaviour towards learners.

In the video‚ which appears to have been taken from a cellphone by one of the pupils in the class‚ the teacher is seen screaming at the pupil: “God you are such an idiot‚ I have to say to you‚ stop your sh*t and work. Really‚ where is your book? Where are your notes? What the f*ck is it doing in your case. Oh shut up you idiot‚ you cannot talk back because you know you are guilty.”

The teacher then raises what looks like her middle finger and says: “This my finger. You can leave!”

Department spokesman Oupa Bodibe said the department was aware of the incident and viewed these allegations in a very serious light.

Bodibe said the matter had been referred to the dispute management directorate for investigation.

“As the department‚ we consider the alleged conduct as unwelcomed behaviour towards learners‚ as it has the potential to interfere with the rights of learners to receive an opportunity to quality education.

“We also call on all educators to refrain from all types of misconduct because educators should lead by example to ensure that learners mirror their conduct in creating safe school environment‚ conducive for effective teaching and learning‚” Bodibe said.
