Status of Nelson Mandela Bay’s metro cops to be discussed

The Portfolio Committee on Police is expected to meet with management of the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro Police Unit on Friday afternoon.

That meeting concludes the committee’s oversight visit to the Eastern Cape.

Committee chairman Francois Beukman said they would discuss the status of the metro police unit at municipal chambers at 2pm.

Friday morning will be spent visiting the Kwazakhele police station and also making unannounced stops at other police stations around the Bay.

During the committee’s visit on Thursday‚ it came to light that Port Elizabeth’s police garage – which has been plagued with issues in recent years – had more administration staff than mechanics.
