Eugene de Kock held against will at Pretoria prison for more than two hours - reports

Former apartheid era police killer Eugene de Kock was reportedly held against his will for more than two hours at Pretoria’s Kgosi Mampuru II Prison on Tuesday.

Reports quoted his lawyer‚ Julian Knight‚ as saying that De Kock was invited to a meeting at with the area commissioner. When he arrived‚ state security officials allegedly wanted to place him under witness protection and take him to a safe house‚ saying his life was in danger.

When he declined the offer‚ they allegedly prevented him from leaving‚ but later let him go.

De Kock‚ who headed as counter-insurgency unit based at Vlakplaas and was responsible for hunting down and killing enemies of the apartheid state‚ was paroled last year after serving nearly 20 years in prison for murder‚ kidnapping and assault‚ among other crimes.
