Was the recent shift in the political landscape behind the music being piped on to Gautrain’s stations and platforms on Friday morning?
Inceku ? ?@ZenzoM– suspected it was the gains made by the Democratic Alliance (DA) in Gauteng‚ and asked: “Are you playing Afrikaans music cause DA won? sinyile already? @TheGautrain”
So‚ she made a request… “Please Play Babes Wodumo — Wololo @TheGautrain”.
Njabulo ?@iNJBL had a similar remark about the genre‚ but seemed to appreciate the effort made to add some rhythm to the railway: “@TheGautrain thanks for the music but maybe if you have to play music it shouldn’t only be Afrikaans folk music.”
MEGA HIVE ?@SiphiwesComEsse was not one bit pleased and wanted to talk to someone in authority: “1. Why is there music playing at the sandton gautrain station 2. Who is in charge of playing this awful music”?
Bob Dubery ?@BDubery was also unimpressed: “@TheGautrain Music on the platforms at Sandton this morning? Cant say its an improvement.”
Michael Mavuso ?@MavusoMike‚ however‚ thought it was a rather chilled way to start the Friday commute: “Thank you @TheGautrain for music on platforms‚ very soothing!!!!”
Spokesperson Kesagee Nayager told TMG Digital that the music being played at Gautrain stations on Friday “was a test exercise and we are considering implementing this all stations“.
Meanwhile‚ a luckless Barry McCallum ?@BarryMcCallum tried to get a partner to throw down some moves at Rhodesfield: “Hey‚ @TheGautrain‚ digging the music on the platform! My attempts to get my fellow passengers to dance with me are unsuccessful...so far ;-)”.
Also on Twitter users’ minds was the potential strike by Gautrain staffers who are members of the United National Transport Union‚ which this week failed to reach a settlement with the Gautrain operator over wages at the Commission for Conciliation‚ Mediation and Arbitration.
