Woman crushed by bags of animal feed

Large bags of animal feed and a cylinder weighing 600kg killed a woman and injured three other people in two separate industrial accidents in KwaZulu-Natal.

A woman went into cardiac arrest after being crushed by several bags of animal feed that fell onto people at an industrial park in Howick on Wednesday.

“Paramedics from ER24 arrived on the scene where they found members from another service as well as security guards assisting the three women. It is understood that they managed to lift several of the bags to gain access to them‚” said ER24.

“One of the women was in a critical condition. She had sustained severe chest and head injuries. While paramedics were busy treating her‚ her condition rapidly deteriorated and she went into cardiac arrest.

“Paramedics performed CPR for almost an hour but were unable to revive her. She was later declared dead on the scene.”

Two other women were treated for multiple chest and possible internal injuries before being transported to hospital.

Police are investigating the incident.

And at a factory in New Germany‚ Pinetown‚ a 53-year-old man sustained a serious leg injury when a large cylinder fell on top of him on Wednesday.

“At 1pm paramedics arrived at the site where they found the man with a deep cut and fractured leg. He explained to paramedics that he was busy assembling a machine when a trolley carrying the pipe fell over and on top of him. He stated that he managed to get the pipe of his leg and called for help‚” said ER24. – TMG Digital
