Man arrested for possessing unlicensed firearm

A 44-year-old suspect has been arrested in Tafelsig‚ Cape Town‚ on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Western Cape police spoksman Captain FC van Wyk said that at about 10.55pm on Friday night‚ Mitchells Plain Crime Prevention Unit members had received a complaint about a firearm being kept at a premises in Lebombo street in Tafelsig.

“Upon searching the premises members found a 303 hunting rifle hidden under a mattress.The rifle was wrapped in cellotape. A 44-year-old was arrested on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm.

 “The suspect is due to appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrates Court on Monday on the said charges‚” Van Wyk said.
