Riders taking part in this year’s Bikers for Mandela Day‚ including DJ Fresh‚ Madiba’s former personal assistant Zelda la Grange‚ musicians Karen Zoid and Karlien van Jaarsveld‚ and DJ Angie Khumalo‚ will set off tomorrow (Thursday).
The aim of this year’s event is to inspire women and girls‚ but specifically victims and survivors of Gender Based Violence‚ and to help restore their confidence.

Before departing from Johannesburg‚ the bikers will visit Bethany House to plant a vegetable garden‚ which will provide the organisation with fresh and nutritious produce. They will also refurbish an old jungle gym for the children who live at the home that was founded in 1989 as a shelter and place of rehabilitation for abused women and children.
The bikers will then travel to Nelspruit‚ where two free screenings of “Dis ek‚ Anna” will be screened at Movies@Emnotweni.
After the screenings‚ Charlene Brouwer‚ who plays the lead‚ and Nelson Mandela’s stepdaughter Josina Machel will give educational talks on sexual violence and abuse.
On Friday‚ the group will travel to Barberton where they will refurbish an area at the police station used for their victim empowerment programme.
The next stop is Mozambique‚ where the group will meet the Goodbye Malaria team. Goodbye Malaria’s aim is to educate and assist with the awareness around the fight against malaria on the continent.
On Sunday‚ they return to Nelspruit where they will refurbish the GRIP waiting‚ reception and consulting areas at the Rob Ferreira Hospital.
Their last stop will be at Meetse a Bophelo in Mamelodi East on Mandela Day‚ 18 July 2016.
Sponsors will make donations in support of some of the organisations the bikers visit along the route.
