A group of ANC supporters who arrived outside the party’s Durban headquarters on Saturday morning with a makeshift machine gun emblazoned with the words “ANC needs defending” set the tone for today’s youth day rally.
Clad in ANC t-shirts and head scarves hundreds danced and sang as they awaited President Jacob Zuma’s arrival. The president is set to unveil a massive election countdown clock mounted outside the ANC’ s regional headquarters in Durban before addressing thousands of youth league supporters at Kings Park Stadium.
ANC spokesman Mdu Ntuli said the clock would serve as a reminder to Durban residents of the looming local government elections on August 3.
