Cops nab woman for lover's death

The family of a Hammanskraal woman who was arrested for the murder of her live-in lover were still reeling in shock yesterday.

Residents of Block B in Carousel View found the body behind the 38-year-old woman's house on Monday.

Police believe the man, who cannot be named until his family has been informed, was killed on Sunday.

The woman, her 63-year-old neighbour, who is allegedly also her lover, and his 39-year-old son were arrested on Monday.

Police spokesman Constable Herman Moremi said the three were charged with murder.

They were expected to appear in the Moretele Magistrate's Court in Temba Wednesday.

Family members and a neighbour who spoke to Sowetan on Tuesday said they were still shocked.

Neighbour , Blasious Komape, 58, said the dead man fought for his lover.

"A neighbour called me and said there was a body behind that house. We found him lying in the grass, his clothes were wet from the rain.

"My neighbour went into the house and found blood on the floor and in front of the house.

"We went to the neighbour's house because we knew that we would find her there. They all acted like everything was normal," he said.

Komape said they were shocked when the neighbour's son went into the dead man's house and began to mop the floor, shortly after speaking to them.

"We told him to stop and wait for the police, but he ignored us.

"I believe the man went into that house looking for his woman and he was attacked. He died for her."

Komape accused the woman of having a drinking problem.

The woman's aunt said she struggled to sleep since her arrest.

"I don' t know why she did this. If this man was attacked at the neighbour' s house I would understand, but he was killed in his own house ."

The woman had been living with her now dead lover.

The aunt said she arrived at the house and cleaned the blood that was still left in the home.

"There was blood everywhere. The man had a wound on the head and neck. His arm was also broken.

"My niece was always at the neighbour's house.

"She slept there with the children that night, and it was not the first time."

The woman's sister-in-law from her previous marriage, who asked not to be named, said the incident brought back painful memories of her brother's death.

Her 59-year-old brother was found dead in an open veld in 2014.

"He went out to drink with her, but she came back alone. We found his body at a mortuary after searching for days. He had a big wound on his head.

"I am shocked and I regret not pushing for my brother' s case to be investigated," she said.
