SABC COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng has on Tuesday afternoon confirmed that its 90% local content quota will be adopted by the broadcaster’s TV channels.

The news was revealed during a press conference held at the SABC headquarters in Auckland Park to welcome new talent to the broadcaster and hand over contracts to them.

Ever since the SABC announced its 90% local music quota across its 18 radio stations there has been talk that a move towards local television content will follow suit.

However‚ up until now‚ the shift to introduce more local content was not put into motion.

Taking to social media while the press conference was still underway veteran musician Arthur Mafokate revealed that Hlaudi has announced a 90% quota for TV stations going forward.

“90% Local on TV was announced today by SABC COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng‚” said Mafokate.

Speaking to TMG Entertainment last week SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago reaffirmed the broadcaster’s plans to air more local content‚ explaining that they were in talks with producers to provide more local content for the channels.

“We first announced a new language policy across the stations and then called a meeting with local film producers to find out how we can make the process of producing more local content a lot easier‚” Kganyago said.

Viewers can expect to see a shift in content from July 1.
