SACP to file affidavit about Hawks boss’s ‘plan to harass members’

The South African Communist Party (SACP) is due to meet its legal team on Tuesday‚ after which it might file an affidavit presented by a member of the organisation who allegedly overheard the Hawks head‚ Lt-Gen Berning Ntlemeza‚ speaking of political motives to harass party members.

SACP second deputy secretary Solly Mapaila said the filing of the affidavit was rescheduled as the member in question was not immediately available on Monday.

The City Press reported on Sunday that the affidavit would be filed on Monday‚ and followed the Hawks on Thursday challenging the SACP to prove its claims that Ntlemeza’s “stewardship … reflects politically motivated‚ factional and private agendas“.

On Wednesday last week‚ the SACP said one of its members had overheard a conversation that the Hawks’ “new mandate” was to harass communists.

The SACP also claimed that it had heard Ntlemeza telling a “third party” that the Hawks would target Madoda Sambatha‚ the party’s North West provincial secretary.

According to the SACP‚ Ntlemeza was discussing “the agenda with a third person‚ without realising that seated an arm’s length from him was a leader of an organ of the SACP‚ who overheard the discussion from where it was held“.
