Blessers will on Friday “receive attention” at a government forum which “aims to create a platform for men to mentor the boy child to be credible future leaders”.

The Gauteng Department of Social Development’s Men’s Forum was set to discuss the “practice where older men are targeting teenage girls‚ by giving them gifts and money in exchange for sex”‚ a statement said.

It noted: “This phenomenon has led to some teenagers to kill themselves after discovering that the person they had sex with is a member of their family.

“These practices perpetuate the perception that all men are abusers of women‚” the statement continued.

The topic of blessers has been in the news lately‚ with social leaders and celebrities weighing in.

TV personality Ntombi Mzolo took to Instagram to that say she found the phenomenon of sugar daddies showering women with expensive gifts “very disturbing”

“I’m not one to judge but I honestly think there are other solutions‚” she said.

Controversial businessman Kenny Kunene — widely known as the Sushi King — called for the Blesserfinder page to be closed‚ saying: “Once it becomes a transaction there is no blesser and blessee‚ it’s prostitution.”

TV personality Khanyi Mbau — once a “self-confessed” gold-digger – was trolled on social media by some who labelled her a blesee – a person on the receiving — for her relationship with Mandla Mthembu.

Mbau tweeted that Mthembu was not her blesser but her husband: “He can’t be a blesser if I was his wife.”
