Soweto has a new millionaire - a factory worker who kept her Lotto ticket in her Bible

A Soweto woman who was employed as a factory worker has won R20 million in the lottery — for the price of a R20 ticket.

The woman‚ who is in her 50s‚ bought her lottery ticket in Glen Ridge for the Saturday‚ 30 April draw.

Her R20 winning ticket was the only one that matched all six Lotto numbers‚ scooping the guaranteed jackpot‚ lottery operator Ithuba said in a statement.

The “shocked and emotional woman” had kept her winning ticket inside her Bible.

Initially‚ she thought it had been a big mistake that it somehow matched all six numbers.

Now she’s thrilled that she will finally get to fulfil her dream of retiring early and acquiring a home by the sea.

“This will transform my life‚” she said while struggling to hold back tears.

She also plans to buy her daughter a house.

Meanwhile‚ Ithuba said it had another Saturday winner — a ticket bought at Cape Town’s Bonteheuwel Post Office in the Western Cape‚ which won the R1.5-million Lotto Plus jackpot‚ at the same draw. No further details of this winner are available as yet.
