Limpopo child slayer, Lesiba Kekana stood hopelessly in the dock as Judge Joseph Raulinga sentenced him to 52 years imprisonment at the High Court in Polokwane.

Kekana, 37, was convicted on four counts of murder and one of assault.  He pleaded guilty on all five counts.

He has been under state custody for seven months since his arrest in September 2015 for slaughtering his four sons after an argument with his wife.

Kekana brutally killed Bokang (6), Keneilwe (10), Thlologelo (13) and Lekgoledi (4) at their home in Zebediela outside Lebowakgomo.

Kekana pleaded guilty on four counts of murder and one of assault, where he assaulted his wife Lorraine with an axe with an intention to do grievous bodily harm on her.

He killed his children and later tried to commit suicide but was halted by community members at Moletlane village.

“I firstly cut my throat but when I saw that it was painful, I then tied an electrical cable on the roof to hang myself. But as I was about to hang myself, a community mob knocked at my door and I opened after I heard them shouting that they are kicking the door”, continues Kekana.

Judge Joseph Raulinga said Kekana had shown no mercy by slaughtering his children like sheep.

Kekana received a long sentence behind bars despite a motivation for a lesser sentence of 20 years from his legal representative.

However, Kekana’s wife Lorraine feels that a 52 years sentence is small and cannot bring her children back.

“I am happy with 52 years sentence, though it sounds small. I don’t think that there is a sentence that can bring back my children”, said Lorraine.
