Barbed wire on truck catches pedestrian‚ drags him for 50m

A Pietermaritzburg man is recovering in hospital after being trapped in barbed wire and dragged behind a truck in a a freak accident on Friday.

Paramedics said the man was standing along Eden Park Drive in the KwaZulu-Natal capital city when the truck drove past him.

“The man got caught on a piece of barbed wire that was hanging off the side of the truck. It is believed that the man was dragged behind the truck for about 50 metres before he freed himself from the barbed wire‚” said ER24 spokesman Pieter Rossouw.

By the time paramedics arrived‚ the man was lying on his back on the side of the road.

He had sustained “massive lacerations to his arms and legs“.

“The truck was not on scene and it is believed to have been a hit and run‚” said Rossouw.
