Pikitup workers embark on illegal strike

The City of Johannesburg’s waste management company Pikitup has confirmed in a tweet that its workers have embarked on an illegal strike which will affect refuse collection in all parts of Johannesburg.

It said workers affiliated to the trade union SAMWU were engaged in the illegal work stoppage.

“The illegal stoppage will affect refuse collection in all regions of the City of Johannesburg‚” it stated.

The refuse company said details of the impact and contingency plans would be communicated at a later stage.
