A police identikit has been issued for a motorist who drove off from a petrol station without paying after filling up with fuel. While he had false number plates on the car‚ his appearance was distinctive enough for a detailed sketch to be made of him.

Cases of “fill up and flee” were a problem in 2014‚ but have been reported less often since then.

Western Cape said the fuel theft took place at a petrol station in the Wellington industrial area in mid-December.

“It is alleged that the suspect who was driving a white Toyota Corolla with a false registration number plate‚ filled up with petrol and drove away without paying.

“The suspect is between 30 years and 35 years old‚ approximately 1.75 m tall‚ of medium build‚ light in complexion‚ bald and has sideburns and a moustache. During the incident he was wearing a pink and white scarf around his neck.”
