A jilted Zimbabwe man, Collen Dube, 35, has reportedly killed his wife, Tumelo Ncube, 25, with an axe, as her teenage brother watched helplessly.

According to the state-owned Chronicle newspaper, relatives of the couple said the two had been having marital problems, with Dube accusing his wife of cheating on him.

The couple had been together for three years and had two children.

"Their relationship had never been smooth as Dube was always accusing Tumelo of cheating on him. They were always quarrelling. About two weeks ago, they had a serious dispute and the village head had to intervene. My daughter returned home [to stay with us]," Tumelo's father Joseph was quoted saying.

Joseph said his son-in-law then came to his house, saying he wanted his wife and children back, but he [Joseph] demanded that he pays a fine of R500 as he had "disrespected" him and his daughter.

When Dube came back the following day with R200, Joseph told him to bring his family with him to show remorse for his actions.

However, at around 04:00 on Wednesday, Dube returned and stormed into the hut where Ncube was sleeping with their two children and her 13-year-old brother, and struck her with an axe on the left side of her face before fleeing.

This was not the first time that such an incident occurred in Zimbabwe.

In December last year, All- Africa reported that a man killed his entire family after catching her having sex with another man in their matrimonial bedroom.

After committing the gruesome crime, the man hanged himself from a tree in near-by bushes, the report said.
