10 boys allegedly forced to sodomise one another

A rural village in northern KwaZulu-Natal is gripped by a sex scandal in which teenage boys allegedly forced 10 younger boys to sodomise one another.

Four teens, thought to have been involved in the alleged mass rape on Sunday, were arrested on Tuesday and were expected to appear in the Esikhawini Magistrate's Court on Friday.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Nqobile Gwala said detectives had registered cases of compelled rape and assault with the intention of causing grievous bodily harm

“It is alleged that on Sunday at about 11:00 the children were swimming at Madaka Reserve when they were attacked by the suspects,” she said.

“Four suspects aged between 15 and 19 were arrested. They are appearing today [Friday] in the Esikhawini Magistrate's Court,” she said.

The Zululand Observer reported that a group of 10 boys, aged between 8 and 12,  left their homes at uMkhobose to go for a swim at Injunga Dam outside eSikhaleni.

While cooling themselves, they were reportedly approached by a group of  teenagers, who ordered them to strip naked before allegedly molesting them and forcing them to have sexual intercourse with one another, the paper said.

The matter purportedly came to light after video footage of the incident circulated on social media.
