Ex-cop bust for illegal firearms and police uniform

A former police officer and another man have been bust by Kwazulu-Natal police for possessing illegal firearms and police uniforms.

The men‚ one of whom is a former police captain who was attached to the Stock Theft Unit‚ were arrested at Ibisi near Umzimkhulu during an intelligence-driven operation conducted jointly by the Port Shepstone Public Order Police unit‚ Ugu South Task Team and uMzimkhulu Crime Intelligence unit‚ police spokesman Major Thulani Zwane said.

They were found in possession of five unlicensed firearms‚ 67 assorted live rounds of ammunition‚ a magazine‚ two holsters and police uniforms.

 The suspects were expected to appear in the Umzimkhulu Magistrate’s Court on Thursday on charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
