Five arrested in Western Cape for growing dagga worth R1.7m

Four men and a woman were arrested by police near Philippi in the Western Cape on Thursday morning for illegally growing dagga with an estimated street value of R1.7m.

The arrests‚ by members of the Trio Crimes and Gangs unit‚ followed a tip-off from the local community‚ police spokesman  Constable Noloyiso Rwexana said.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
