Man kills girlfriend, then calls her mom with body's location - police

A man allegedly beat his girlfriend to death and then called her mother to tell her where to find the body, Gauteng police said on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old allegedly killed both his girlfriend and her cousin in Winterveld, north of Pretoria, on Monday, said police spokesperson Constable Petunia Chabangu.

"He struck both of them with a hammer on the head and stabbed the girlfriend more than 15 times in the upper body. The cousin was stabbed nine times in the upper body and the head."

Both women were 20 years old. He fled to his family in Dube, Soweto, taking the couple's two children, aged two and three.

"He then phoned the mother of his girlfriend that she must go and visit his place, where she will find her daughter dead," Chabangu said.

The man was arrested on Tuesday afternoon and would appear in the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate's Court soon.
