5-year-old fatal beating a reminder of chronically ill society - EFF

The murder of a 5-year-old who had wet herself was a reminder of a chronically ill society, the EFF said on Sunday.

This after a 5-year-old North West girl was beaten to death by her mother’s boyfriend for wetting herself while sleeping on the couch.

EFF spokesperson Mbuyiseli Ndlozi said such acts were painful reminders of the high rate of absent fathers and the number of single mothers trapped in abusive relationships.

"The ‘village’ has regressed on Ubuntu – we are no longer raising our children, rather, we are abusing them. We remain a violent nation that is incapacitated to deal with conflict amicably," he said in a statement.

Calling for child abusers to be denied bail, he said the party committed itself to leading a debate on these issues in search of sound resolutions.

"It is evident that programmes such a '16-days of Activism For No Violence Against Women and children' and the likes address the symptoms of a society that has become fundamentally disconnected," Ndlozi said.

The party sent condolences to the family.
