A 22-YEAR-OLD man allegedly slit the throats of his two children and stabbed his fiancée before committing suicide near Tembisa, Ekurhuleni.

According to police, Tshepo Majola killed his children, aged five and two, and then went to a nearby shebeen where he attempted to kill his fiance on Wednesday evening.

Captain Tsekiso Mofokeng said the woman was in a serious condition in hospital.

Majola's brother, Thabo Mpokola, said the couple had only been engaged for two months.

He said Majola always complained about his fiancée who left their children at his parents' house while she went clubbing.

"The family was celebrating Reconciliation Day ... Tshepo had about two beers but was not drunk. He took his daughter into the bedroom where his son was sleeping. Everybody thought he was putting them to bed like he usually did," said Mpokola.

Mpokola said Majola called his brother's phone and apologised for what he had done in his bedroom.

"He said he was going to finish off their mother. The children had been slaughtered, their throats were cut wide open," he said.

Mpokola said they heard a few minutes later that Majola had also stabbed his fiancee.

"He apparently went to speak to her at the shebeen but instead she allegedly threw her engagement ring at him. Tshepo then stabbed her in the neck," he said.

Majola's body was found behind a shack at a house near his relative's home in Phomolong section. Maria Mokobodi, who discovered the body, was traumatised.

"I was going to the toilet when I saw his body behind the shack. He was lying face down [so] I suspected he was dead and ran to the house screaming," said Mokobodi.

Frida Mokobodi, who also stays in the same house, said she searched for a pulse but realised Majola was already dead.

"When they turned him over, they found that part of an electrical cord we used to make a washing line was tied around his neck. There was blood in his ears, nose and wrist. We are still traumatised," she said.

Mofokeng said they were investigating murder, attempted murder and suicide cases.

In September, Lesiba Kekana , 37, of Moletlane Mmatjatji in Zebediela in Limpopo allegedly cut the throats of all his four children aged four, six, 10 and 13 with a knife before attempting to commit suicide. He was apparently not in good terms with his wife. He allegedly killed the children, who apparently lived with their grandmother, following a visit to their mother in Gauteng. Kekana, who faces four charges of murder, was denied bail by the Magatle Periodical Court in November. He will be back in court on January 21.
